No.50/30817/30817

Sir,

LEAGUE OF NATIONS,

GENEVA,

18

December 22nd, 1937.

I have the honour to transmit herewith copy of a

letter which I have today sent to the Colonial Secretary, Hong

Kong, requesting the assistance of the Government of Hong Kong

in order to facilitate the entry into Hong Kong and the re-

export to China of certain quantities of narcotic drugs which

are or will be included among the medical stores intended for

the use of the three medical units sent by the League of

Nations, on the resolution of the last Assembly, to China in

connection with the control of epidemics amongst the civilian

and refugee population.

In view of the urgency of the matter, I have

ventured to address this letter direct to the Colonial

Secretary at Hong Kong. I should be grateful if the United

Kingdom Government would, by appropriate means, support the

request addressed by me to the Government of Hong Kong.

I have, etc.,

(Signed) SEAN LESTER.

Deputy Secretary-General.

The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs,

Foreign Office,

Downing Street,

LONDON, S.W.1.
